Non-Stoptober!

October has started with a bang and it is non-stop for events and fairs.

We survived a busy, but wet and windy Festival of Antiques at the Showground, Peterborough last week.

This weekend we are looking forward to a fab time at the Midcentury Show East, brought to you by Modern Shows. The show is being held in the Erno Goldfinger designed secondary school, Haggerston, East London. It is a rare opportunity to see the inside of this recently refurbished Grade II listed building, built in the 1960s.

At the end of the month there is an exciting addition to our calendar – TWO new furniture fleas, from Judy’s Vintage. Both in London the new furniture fleas are taking place in Lambeth Town Hall, Brixton Hill on 19th October and Seymour Leisure Centre, Marylebone on 26th October. As usual there will be great range of Vintage, Retro and Mid Mod furniture and homewares. Just like Bethnal Green we will be bringing a selection of Record players, Radiograms, speakers, clocks, lighting, phones and other vintage technology.

Check out our events page for all the October shows and those we are attending for the rest of the year

Busy Busy Busy

Well the first months of 2013 have certainly started with a bang! We have had our busiest start to the year since we began this adventure three years ago. We have had amazing online sales and great shows including two fab Furniture Fleas at Bethnal Green (next one 9th June) and a great Mid-Century Modern Show at Dulwich College.

May is looking equally busy with local and London Shows. We are in Milton Keynes, for the first MK Antiques Fair bank holiday weekend (4th– 6th May) and Alexandra Palace on 12th May. We are also off to the sunny South-West on the 19th for the first Vintage Home Show at the Bristol Paintworks – an amazingly quirky venue. For full details of all the shows we are attending go to the events page of our website.

Retro B Out & About – Scotland Bound

Typical isn’t it – you wait years for a vintage festival to come to Scotland – then like buses two come at once! In the summer we are coming to Glasgow for the Vintage Festival, part of the Merchant City Festival in July then off to Edinburgh in the autumn for Vintage Nation- a one day extravaganza at the Corn Exchange in October.

As in previous years the Vintage Festival Marketplace is being curated by Judy Berger of Judy’s Affordable Vintage and we’re sure it will be up to her usual high standard. Vintage Nation is Judy’s own Festival creation which had its successful inaugural event in Brighton last year.

We are looking forward to both events and hopefully they will be part of the larger festival season for us.

Remember we can bring most purchases from our website or our eBay shop to shows we are attending to save postage costs!

Record Players Galore!

With the resurgence of interest in vinyl the market for our restored record players and radiograms is very buoyant. We were going to enthuse about an amazing Sobell radiogram & bar from the 1950s – but it sold while going to press!

So what else do we have in stock? Well we have just purchased a collection of 11 portable vintage record players from the 1950s – 1970s. We are slowing restoring them and will be bringing them to the shows we are attending in May and they will be starting to appear on the website soon, so please bear with us.

Each record player will be stripped down lubricated and serviced, new stylus, cartridge & valves will be fitted, where needed, and where possible each machine will be adapted for any MP3 player! If you are interested in a record player please drop us a line at enquiries@retro-bazaar.co.uk and we can send through photos.

Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for all the latest news, events and stock info.

Gorgeous George is coming to Vintage Festival 2012!

No not Clooney – this is our Gorgeous George, with Ruby…..and he is coming to Vintage 2012. George is a fully restored 1972 Volkswagen Beetle and he will be on show for the whole of the festival at Broughton House, 13th – 15th July. Come and see him and us there.

Our preparations are well underway for the festival; we are frantically getting stock ready for the show – lots of Retro phones, clocks, lighting, record players, homewares and maybe the odd radiogram if we can fit it on the stall. As we are based near to the show, we will be changing and adding stock daily and can we deliver locally. Visit the Vintage 2012 site for full details of the festival.

June Fairs – Vintage Nation

The first ‘Vintage Nation’ one day festival was held at Brighton Racecourse in early June and thankfully the rain managed to hold off for the whole day. The Venue was great and we had the Paddock Box where we set up a whole shop, with help from Lesley of Retropolitan. All this for a day! Mad I know but it looked great.  See the pictures on our Pinterest page.

Sold lots of stock and met lots of lovely vintage folk. Big sellers were luggage, lighting, homewares and the obligatory radiogram. Didn’t get home till 3am – but definitely worth the trip and looking forward to next year.

Wow a Radiogram on the Website!

At last one of our fabled radiograms has actually made it to the website – mainly because this one is so good we wanted to share it with everyone before it sells. It’s a Vintage Marconiphone, Model 4304 from the 1950s. Not only an iconic piece of furniture of the period, but a fabulous piece of Vintage technology AND adapted for any MP3 player!

Finished in highly polished teak veneer, with tambour roller doors to the front, and speakers covered in stylised black & silver atomic period material. It stands on ebonised legs, which are removable for easy transportation.

This gorgeous piece of Vintage chic has been given a comprehensive service and is fully working. Click here to see it in all its glory.

Well that’s all for now folks. See you at the Vintage Festival – do pop in and say ‘hi’

Techno Meets Retro

With the recent re-emergence of vinyl, record players and radiograms are back in vogue. These necessities of late 20th century living, which up to recently were unloved, are now required purchases for the vintage fashionista. And never one to miss a trend, here at Retro Bazaar we restore and refurbish record players and radiograms – with an added kick – we make them MP3 compatible. So now it is possible to listen to your much beloved vinyl records and your new downloads on one stylish piece of retro loveliness.

So why are there none on your website, I hear you cry? Well basically as soon as they are ready we take them to a show… and they never come back. We always sell them.

If you want to catch one of these lovelies we will be bringing radiograms and a Dansette record player to Bethnal Green Vintage Fair on 27th May. See you there!

Restored Vintage Telephones

So what retro or vintage lover wouldn’t want a fabulous dial telephone in their groovy pad. From 40s & 50s bakelite beauties to the much loved GPO phones of the 60s and 70s and push button phones of the 80s – we sell them all AND they work!

We lovingly restore all our phones, replacing broken cables, dials and handsets as needed. The phones are then rewired to work on the current systems then cleaned to a brilliant shine. We can’t remove all the dings and dents from 40+ years of use, but we have a damn good try

Now I appreciate that you won’t be able to use these phones for telephone banking, but you will get a stylish addition to your hall or sitting room, very loud bells, plus you can’t lose it as its plugged in!

Who wouldn’t want one. Have a look at the website for the full selection – plus we can make the dial label for your number too!

The Website is Live!

Please pop in to have a look at the fun and funky retro on offer – www.retro-bazaar.co.uk. We are madly adding lots of items to the site to show you the breath of the stock we carry, but currently this is only a small percentage of what we have. We will be adding much more over the coming weeks.

If you are looking for something special and distinctive please ask, we may have it in stock already or we will try and locate it for you.

Shows

Thanks to all our customers who visited us at Alexandra Palace and Leamington Spa fairs in February, it was lovely to see you. On the website there is a list of all the shows we are attending so if you do want to buy online and collect we can accommodate you by bringing your purchase to the show.

Repair, Restoration & Conversions

All our retro stock is original, but where a bit of TLC is required we fix, fettle and cajole the items back into life. As well as fixing our own stock, we can carry out repairs, restoration and conversions on your cherished items. We specialise in Clocks, telephones and old audio equipment. Give us a ring or drop us a line if you have anything that’s needs some R&R at the retro hospital. We can’t always work miracles, but we will give it a good go.

Selling Your Retro

If you find it is now time to have a clear out, downsizing or you are undertaking a much needed colour scheme change we can take your unwanted retro and vintage items off your hands. See the ‘Selling’ page on the website for more details

Hopefully we have piqued your interest and enticed you to take a tour around the Bazaar.
